A Party for the Times

Posted June 27, 2009 – 1:10 pm in: Uncategorized

Today I attended a Sell, Swap, or Buy Party.  The concept was unique and certainly appropriate for the reality a lot of us are now living.  In a nut shell, the attendees either bring items to sell, swap, and/or they just come to buy.  The attendees are asked to bring new items that they might ordinarily “re-gift”.  Each attendee with items to present are given a number that they include on all the description cards of the items they have brought along with the minimum price they will accept for the item.  Instead of passing the items on to unexpecting receivers, the guests choose items of interest, add their name to the description card and at the end of the viewing time, the guests that have signed the card then bid on that item … if only one person has signed the card, they get the item at the minimum price indicated by the seller on the card.  I brought home a beautiful, large black patent bag … for $10!

This concept works well if the group of people, have equal interests, taste, etc.  At the party I attended, 3 of the guests had the items that everyone wanted and the other guests who had brought mostly clothes, sold nothing … I can really see this working however, with a group of designers … because even though the items may be varied, we can see the value and possiblities of most any object.  And getting it at a bargain price is even more exciting!

I think I will plan a Designers Sell, Swap or Buy Party.  I’ll let you know how it turns out!
